Fine Art in the Capital of the Prairie

On Monday I left the hostel and walked all around The Loop and downtown, not expecting to be impressed, since I have a deep love of New York City as the greatest city in the world.

But I was impressed.  Chicago has something good going on.  After all, The Second City comedy club started here and has been prospering for 50 years.  Any improv group, any city, that can foster Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray, John Belushi and Tina Fey deserves respect.

This city nurtures not just comedic art but fine art as well:

This is a Picasso sculpture in Daley Plaza, in front of the courthouse.

This is a detail of a Tiffany mosaic dome within the Marshall Fields building, which is now a Macy's.

This is a bigger view of the dome.

This is a detail of a huge outdoor mosaic mural by Chagal on Dearborn Street.

Another take on an arch, this one on Dearborn, not in St. Louis.  It's by Picasso and is called "Flamingo."
